Born in 1984 in Piekary Śląskie. Graduated from Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and History of Art at the Jagiellonian University.  Lives and works in Kraków. He is represented by the lokal_30 gallery in Warsaw. Mateusz Szczypiński's main creative method is operating with quotations, referring to well-known tradition, images and clichés encoded in mass consciousness. In his game with tradition, history of art and certain cultural clichés, he uses the technique of collage, a medium which, as he emphasises, best reflects the multithreading and diversity of the culture in which we function. For him, communicating and entering into dialogue with tradition is an inseparable element of creation.
