Agata Agatowska
Agata Agatowska was born in Oświęcim in 1976. Studied Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław (earned her Master’s degree in 2001, defended her doctoral dissertation in 2012) as well as Sculpture and Stage Design at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf in Germany (diploma in 2012). Worked as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Art of the Pedagogical University of Cracow since 2017. Earned the degree of Doctor Habilitatus at this University in 2019. Employed as the Professor of PU since 2020. Teaches Sculpture.
In the period 2002–2006 cooperated with the Velvets Theater in Wiesbaden as a pantomime actress.
Received numerous awards for her sculptures, among others the Darmstädter Sezession Prize in Darmstadt, Germany, and the Grand Prix at the 5th Biennial of Youth Art “Fish Eye” in Słupsk, both in 2008. Multi-laureate of scholarships awarded by the City of Oświęcim and German foundations based in Düsseldorf: Hedwig und Robert Samuel Stiftung and Friedrich H. J. Schneider Stiftung. Received the Distinction of the City of Oświęcim in the field of Culture in 2013. In 2018 won the plebiscite of “Gazeta Krakowska” daily titled Personality of Year 2017 in the category of Culture. In 2021 the Public Library GALLERY OF BOOK in Oświęcim purchased two sculptures of the artist for the collection as part of the “Sculpture in Public Space for the Independent Poland – 2021” programme of the Centre of Polish Sculpture.
